Poetry for Judith Balso & Jacques Rancière

by Cecília Erismann

For Judith Balso #1

My thoughts follow a river

the river of thoughts of another poet!

My whole life with a poem –

(a poet is always saying one thing in his life –

with all different tools, all different subjects and topics.

like a big bang,

starting with a small personal movement

and expanding to the whole world)

He was looking for a change in his life,

Looking for what could be more for humanity – living together.

No general presupposition, impossibilities...

I heard a voice –

The speech of a poem...

And I could understand everything, but not all.

The poem’s figures are not the figures of language,

Figures of thought…

Each poem contains its own method

squeezing the lemon to produce the juice

Language is material.

Language is conflict.

The poet writes the poem,

The poem builds the poet.

In the middle, life –

occupying the place where the poem is coming from.

Poetry shows how we can go deeper

and deeper and deeper and deeper

Singular fact.

Stay with the poem’s truth!

(said the voice)

Internal truth… The truth is always located,

Universal in its singularities…

In future to future,

Opening a dialogue with the dead ones – unlearning….

Comedy doesn’t mirror its own reality – tends to changes it.

The protagonist of that comedy was him – the writer.

The poet works with the impatience of dictation.

Speaking without spoken,

Poetry is impersonal.

Doesn’t try to deconstruct anything, but affirms it.

The Italian poet was asking us to do the job with him –

involving us in his question.

Melting events and names from different times –

overtones of time.

The poet needs thinkers to be understood.

Invasion of thoughts,

in the dark room prepared by the poet.

The poem exists beyond truth.

For Judith Balso #2

To be just human,

transposing the human’s condition.

Principles and will –

loving the impossible, supporting what can emerge,

New language, new world,

opening the present into a different future.

The future that is not coming from the past….

That still needs to be invented!

From man to man –

A poem speaking and being spoken in the impossible encounter,

The flow goes on,

The old words pass by.

In Hell… No common language.

Hell is an empty landscape.

It is all about the responsibility of your political acts –

be treated as you treated others,

There are no survivors after death.

Darkness in hell – inability of taking distance,

Hell is a frozen world…

Get distance to see the darkness!

Once out of hell, you will be able see the stars…

We arrived in Paradise.

For Jacques Rancière #1

Showing, telling, doing

active images – transforming, making something visible.

The visible, sayable, thinkable –

a world that is common to everyone.

Community of subjects – sphere of a common object,

Common ground.

In some time and space,

The distribution of the sensible:

The bodies and their positions.

They can’t identify what they see – they’ve being looking just for shadows…

They can see – they can see!

But they just see what they don’t see,

The images are some kind of manipulation,

A metaphor, sweet illusion!

To trust in the visible, is to trust in the shadow.

Images turning into action,

Capital at a point that become image…

People as consumer –

consuming the representation of their own lives…

The spectacle was first illustrated by power,

Political images.

The portrait of the capital was made by images,

It is made by images:

images, images, images.

What does the spectacle mean?

Some part of the world –

a whole part being represented…

Its opposite: activity with its end in itself.

The image’s power: separation

The image of a person replacing the person

Dislocation of doing and undoing!

Free image – autonomy of art!

This that we call free image…What is it?!

We are no longer making images –

we are constructing the new life.

New experiments –

where even the experience disappears

What are the elements for this construction?

In that movie, it was two apparatus in action,

One: the woman

Other: the machine.

And the words were taking form…

Cinema –

images disappearing in movement…

The painting being dissolved by images;

Dissolution of images!

Dissolution of separation into unity!

The end of a great dream: a new language with no words.

Words as an artistic communication,

Embodiment of human’s movement.

The allegory of movement – with no end…

Movement as the movement of the new world!

Modern fiction – task of the new writer

Poetry collecting events,

The poetic event… Art is always political.

The long history of one day:

democracy of co-existences, of several events.

Documentary of the day:

it was all fiction?

Poetry is working hard!

The montage will be,

not only technique, but also artistic.

Connecting images – creating a new sensible world

Poetry is a bridge.

All the events –

certain time and space

And repetition

Time – space – time – space – poetry.

Everyday life.

For Jacques Rancière #2

The apparatus – ‘apart – être.’

In the begging and ending of every thing:

Theatre – spectacle.

The man with a camera,

Complete fragmentation –

similarity of all actions.

What matters is the connection of acts…

And for that, ah… Poetry!

The song of an occupation –

The eye cannot take care or take over,

Visual reality,

where all movements are equal.

Fragmentation – presenting a new distribution of the sensible,

Communism: common fabric of life.

Lenin’s lamp:

the eye, several levels…

Abstract dance –

form created by movement.

Life as movement.

The dance has no specific aim,

It is just life’s manifestation…

Free acting: the action with an end in itself.

There is no difference of the end and the middle,

The dissolution of image and movement…

What do you have in front of your eyes?

(whispers a voice ...)

The images are always separation,

Representation of life.

Lenin, the leader –

Charlie, the creator of the new man.

The fascination between man and machine…

Good political tool –

Strong tool.

What it is in front of the blind man?

Seeing someone being blind –

there is no reason to see better.

Or further -

People are separate from their capacity of doing more.
